How Should I Pack?
You are responsible for packing your items securely. Poorly packed boxes can be denied at pickup. To ensure safe storage and transport:
DO:
-
Tape all edges and seams securely.
-
If you must store glassware, electronics, or other breakable items, wrap them individually using bubble wrap or other protective padding.
-
Test for sturdiness by lifting carefully from the bottom - if you hear shifting, add more cushioning.
-
Items inside must be packed in a way that visible external damage is the primary indicator of loss or damage (our coverage typically applies only when there is external box damage).
-
Cushion fragile items inside with clothing, towels, or bubble wrap
-
Fill empty space with soft items or packing material (e.g. packing peanuts, crumpled paper) to prevent shifting
-
Clearly label your Biggabox using the provided labels on the top and two sides. Ensure that each piece of information is filled out. After taping the label to the Biggabox, ensure that all information is easily visible.
-
Remove or cover any old labels or barcodes to avoid confusion.
-
If storing electronic devices, remove batteries where possible and power down devices before packing.
-
Carefully check that the box does not exceed the 50 lb limit. If the box feels too heavy or the sides are bulging, redistribute contents.
-
TAKE PHOTOS OF YOUR ITEMS. This will ensure that there are no mishaps when delivering your items to you in the fall.
DON’T:
-
Overpack or bulge the box.
-
Leave your box open or unsealed. Make sure to seal boxes on all seams (top and bottom) with strong, clear packing tape.
-
Exceed 50 lbs per box.
-
We strongly recommend against storing high-value items (e.g. jewelry, large sums of cash, important documents, passports). If you do, it is at your own risk and subject to liability caps.
-
Include prohibited items - see full list here.
Oversized or Non-Boxed Items?
We do store oversized items or items not packaged in Biggaboxes (e.g. mini fridges, suitcases, desk chairs). These must be:
-
Labeled with your name and delivery details using Biggabox labels. Ideally, tape 1-2 Biggabox packing labels to each item. Ensure that labels are clearly visible and legible.
-
Any electronics or fragile items must be properly wrapped and protected, otherwise, insurance on that item will be forfeited. We highly recommend padding all oversized items.
-
Any minifridges/fridges must be unplugged and left to defrost for at least 24 hours before pickup. Failure to properly defrost your minifridge will result in an additional charge or refusal to store.
-
If there are any moving parts to your non-boxed items, ensure that they are taped closed and properly secured, so that they don't open or shift during moving.

Every item (Biggabox or otherwise) must be properly labeled before pickup. Use provided Biggabox labels on every item and ensure that each piece of information is filled out, including:
